A microphone that is left on and picking up sound when it should be turned off. This can happen accidentally or on purpose. Hot mics can be a major problem in business settings, as they can pick up sensitive or private conversations that were not meant to be heard by others.
Example: After finishing his online presentation, the manager forgot to put his computer on mute, and then mentioned something sensitive that the audience heard because of the hot mic.
